Here is a vid of the hike I did with Andrew and Josh back in March of 2008. We hit bad weather and didn’t get as far on the trail as we planned, but the trip was one of my favorite experiences and best memories. It was the kind of trip that makes me keep going back. Come on guys, the season is here, lets do another one!

Back from the AT - July 2009 - Amicalola Falls -> Neels Gap
It is amazing what you learn about yourself on the trail. This was my longest solo trek at about 40 miles (had a small navigational mishap due to dark) over the course of about 3 days. While I learned more about how far I can push my body and my sense of security being in the woods alone, I also realized that even the greatest moments and sights become dim when they are not shared with others we care about.
While I did meet a few kindred spirits along the way, the meetings were very short lived, and i hiked alone. In the evenings I arrived too late and there where hardly any backpackers present anyway. The first night I was in total isolation apart from the mice that ate into my food bag. This solitude bothered me a night, yet on the trail it afforded me a very rare experience of being nakedly real with myself… no fig leaf, no facade. I could be just be me… and I could just “Be.”
As an amateur photographer the scenes I saw and the photos I took were very rewarding. I will post them soon.
This fall I will plan to lead a Creations Edge group trip for all who have the desire, and hopefully impart the same passion for this amazing Creation that I have been given.
Check back for photos from this section and info on the upcoming trip.

Never Give Up !
In my semi-recent adventure to the Idaho wilderness, this theme became evident. We had every kind of adversity you could think of, big and small, come against us…. and then there was THE Mountain! From lost luggage, to a dead fuel pump, to 8+ hours of intense hiking while carrying 50lbs at heights of 8,000+ Feet… One begins to relate with the many great victors in our world, who were former failures that possessed one common gift… Perseverance.
Read about Winston Churchill :
Winston Churchill failed sixth grade. He was subsequently defeated in every election for public office until he became Prime Minister at the age of 62. He later wrote,
“Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never, Never, Never, Never give up.”
